Alabama Born. Alabama Raised.

Let's make Alabama freer, more prosperous, and more just for every person, every generation. Together.

"I prefer peace. But if trouble must come, let it come in my time, so that my children may have peace" -Thomas Paine

Hello, neighbor...

My name is Alan Thomas, Present, Accounted for, and Running to represent Alabama’s House District 50.

I was born and raised in Birmingham, in a family that believed in hard work, personal responsibility, and taking care of your neighbors. My father worked three jobs, including as a tailor for our first responders, to send me to school. My mother trained as a nurse, and some afternoons I’d walk from campus to Montclair Hospital to meet her after her shift. That’s the kind of upbringing that stays with you.

I learned early that opportunity doesn’t just happen. It’s built. It’s protected. And sometimes, it has to be fought for.

At Altamont, I became the youngest Senior Editor of the Acta Diurna, writing about constitutional freedoms and the First Amendment. Later, I studied developmental psychology and constitutional law at Auburn University and continued my graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. But no matter where my education took me, my roots, and my heart, have always been in Alabama.

Service runs in my family. My grandfather was a journalist during World War II and believed deeply in truth and accountability. My grandmother helped bring the first public library to Oneonta and was active in the local Democratic Party. From them, I learned that strong communities don’t happen by accident. They require transparency, courage, and people willing to step forward when it matters.

I’ve worked at Children’s of Alabama and seen firsthand the challenges facing families, especially in healthcare and adolescent mental health. My own family nearly lost my wife, our children's mother, to pregnancy-related complications due to gaps in care. That experience changes you. It makes policy personal.

Like many of you, I’ve watched utility bills climb. I’ve worked in the service industry to keep the lights on. I’ve seen how overreach and unnecessary red tape can make it harder for small businesses to grow and for workers to thrive. Government has a role. That role is to protect our rights, not bury families and entrepreneurs under regulations that do little more than slow opportunity and limit economic growth.

I believe we can defend individual liberty while also building a thriving, competitive Alabama economy. That means eliminating unnecessary regulations that infringe on rights, supporting local businesses, strengthening families, and making sure our government works for We The People. Not the other way around.

I’m running as a Democrat in a historically Republican district because I believe our values are bigger than party labels. This campaign isn’t about red or blue. It’s about whether families in District 50 can build stable, prosperous lives and thriving businesses here at home.

The work ahead is serious. Our healthcare system needs attention. Working families are stretched thin. Trust in leadership has eroded. But I believe in this district. I believe in Alabama. And I believe that when we focus on what’s right, what’s good, and what’s truly in the best interest of our neighbors, we can move forward together.

My name is Alan Thomas, Present and Accounted for, Running for House District 50. I would be honored to earn your trust. And your vote.

Join me on the road to Montgomery. Let's do better, together. Let's get loud. Let's Go, District 50!
